Actually, yes you can. This whole business about hwo it’s ooohhh soooo hardddd to be an artist and *hand to forehead* he’s doing his best and it’s so unfair to criticize him because he has so much responsibility!
Bullshit. Utter, complete bullshit.
Look, I’m a writer. I write both fiction and non-fiction. I know what it means to have to write on a deadline, what it means to have to write often and in volume. Scott has a job. If he is unable to do that job — write well — because he is overwhelmed then he doesn’t get a pass. Just because it’s writing doesn’t mean he’s a special snowflake.
No one is immune from criticism from people who aren’t int he exact same situation. If you’re not good at your job, you’re just not.
