K Tempest Tumbles

I'm K. Tempest Bradford, a writer, blogger, tech geek, and all around nerd. I'm such a big science fiction/fantasy/speculative fiction fan that I even write it (I know, pretty hard core!).

I have a non-Tumblr blog and that's where the majority of my long-form posts go. This blog is for my more fannish activities, link sharing, and squeeness.

Drum Kit Chandelier by Matt Ludwig

Master welder Ludwig installed this Chandelier Drum Kit in JJ’s Red Hots, a hot dog joint in North Carolina. IN B4 “I cant believe they wasted such a gorgeous kit”… Listen Neil Peart, good art creates something beautiful, but great art destroys it.

Jenny sees a really pretty Pink Floyd shirt at her favorite store.

Jenny doesn’t listen to Pink Floyd so she chooses another cute top instead.

Good choice, Jenny.

Respecting bands, super simple stuff.

Mary sees a Nirvana shirt that she thinks will help her style become “grunge”.

Mary only likes the song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and really doesn’t like the other songs by Nirvana. She decides to find other ways to make her style become “grunge”.

Good choice, Mary.

Respecting bands, super simple stuff.

Mary sees a Nirvana shirt that she thinks will help her style become “grunge.”

Mary only likes the song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and really doesn’t like the other songs by Nirvana.

Mary buys the Nirvana shirt and it helps her style become more “grunge.”

Doucher Nirvana stans continue to be doucher Nirvana fans.

Wow, it’s such an astonishing and meaningless coincidence that all of these people happen to be women.

Also, what the hell is this “respecting bands” bullshit? The t-shirts exist to make money, not to mark you as a true fan. True fans are often the ones interested in said shirts, but the reason they sell those shirts in places other than out of the back of the band’s van is that someone is hoping a wider audience will want the damn shirt.

I found a shirt at… H&M, I think, with the art from Guns n’ Roses Appetite for Destruction on it. Bought it because I love me some old school GnR. However, it was on sale at a fucking H&M. Obviously it wasn’t there just for old school GnR fans, and I really doubt Axl Rose is going to feel shame because some gay men who have only ever listened to Sheryl Crow’s cover of Sweet Child of Mine decided to pay $19.95 for it since he probably gets $2 for every one sold.

In other words: quit this essentiallist bullshit and wear whatever fucking shirt you want.

The bottom line on this issue is simple: If you think that a piece of media such as a movie, TV show, book, or song is merely entertainment and ingest said media without giving any thought to how it influences or shapes you or the culture you exist in, You Are A Sheep.

What!? You cry. Again:

You. Are. A. Sheep.

It’s the first day of June, and I’m told it’s traditional to celebrate this day by sharing this video of Leslie Uggums completely, completely messing up the lyrics to “June Is Busting Out All Over”. So here it is.

The subtitles completely make it (watch the replay).

SCIENTISTS MAKE BREAKTHROUGH ON “MOST RELAXING TUNE”

“Tranquil”, a variation on scientists’ previous track “Weightless”, is now being called a scientific breakthrough in sleep and relaxation technology. Utilizing a rhythmic and dissonant soundscape, barren yet fertile enough to produce outstanding results. Including the new patented technology designed by SleepKeys™, a company that develops musical peripherals designated for “An audience in need of a nap!”

SleepKeys™ developer, Harold Bracisezewski, released a statement saying: “Our incredible new device, The DreamCatcher, provides the whooshing and throbbing bass sounds capable of soothing your average child, adult, and even household pets.”

Oh my GOD and I thought the last one was relaxing holy shit

Wow, it really works!

I needed this after spending 2 hours after school in the cafeteria without money.

Upcycled CD Animals by Sean Avery

Good audio formats never die, they get continuously reborn as cool art sculptures. Using wire frame and old CD’s, shredded into finely-sharpened feathers, scales, and fur, and thorax. My question: do they still play music?

Beloved editor, artist and writer Terri Windling is in need, and we are asking for your help in a fundraising auction to assist her.

Terri Windling and her family have been coping with health and legal issues that have drained her financial resources at a critical time. Due to the serious nature of these issues, and privacy concerns for individual family members, we can’t be more specific than that, but Terri is in need of our support. As a friend, a colleague and an inspiration, Terri has touched many, many lives over the years. She has been supremely generous in donating her own work and art to support friends and colleagues in crisis. Now, Terri is in need of some serious help from her community. Who better than her colleagues and fans to rise up to make some magick for her?

Bid! and Reblog if you’re so inclined :)
